چکیده

Aluminum forms various structures on Si(100)-2×1. The most important of these are one-dimensional chains which are formed at room temperature and Si-Al clusters which can form c(4×12) reconstruction at temperature about 500 °C. STS spectra were measured above Al chains, in its close surroundings and above typical defects which are formed on the chains. One type of defect which appears at temperatures from 200 to 300 °C has a metallic tunneling spectrum. Si dimers adjacent to Al chains have tunneling spectra slightly different from a clean silicon. It indicates that they can have different reactivity. The clusters forming the c(4×12) reconstruction have semiconductive tunneling spectra with a band gap about 1.2 eV.

Spin-polarized quantum confinement in nanostructures: Scanning tunneling microscopy

Experimental investigations of spin-polarized electron confinement in nanostructures by scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and scanning tunneling spectroscopy (STS) are reviewed. To appreciate the experimental results on the electronic level, the physical basis of STM is elucidated with special emphasis on the correlation between differential conductance, as measured by STS, and the electron d...

Defects in oxide surfaces studied by atomic force and scanning tunneling microscopy

Surfaces of thin oxide films were investigated by means of a dual mode NC-AFM/STM. Apart from imaging the surface termination by NC-AFM with atomic resolution, point defects in magnesium oxide on Ag(001) and line defects in aluminum oxide on NiAl(110), respectively, were thoroughly studied. The contact potential was determined by Kelvin probe force microscopy (KPFM) and the electronic structure ...

Growth, stability and decomposition of Mg 2 Si ultra-thin films on Si (100)

Using Auger Electron Spectroscopy (AES), Scanning Tunneling Microscopy/Spectroscopy (STM/STS) and Low Energy Electron Diffraction (LEED), we report an in-situ study of amorphous magnesium silicide (Mg2Si) ultra-thin films grown by thermally enhanced solid-phase reaction of few Mg monolayers deposited at room temperature (RT) on a Si(100) surface. Silicidation of magnesium films can be achieved ...

Atomic imaging and modeling of H2O2(g) surface passivation, functionalization, and atomic layer deposition nucleation on the Ge(100) surface.

Passivation, functionalization, and atomic layer deposition nucleation via H2O2(g) and trimethylaluminum (TMA) dosing was studied on the clean Ge(100) surface at the atomic level using scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and scanning tunneling spectroscopy (STS). Chemical analysis of the surface was performed using x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, while the bonding of the precursors to the sub...

Tunneling spectroscopy of close-spaced dangling-bond pairs in Si(001):H

We present a combined experimental and theoretical study of the electronic properties of close-spaced dangling-bond (DB) pairs in a hydrogen-passivated Si(001):H p-doped surface. Two types of DB pairs are considered, called "cross" and "line" structures. Our scanning tunneling spectroscopy (STS) data show that, although the spectra taken over different DBs in each pair exhibit a remarkable rese...
